This video uses inches even though we use centimeters in Canada. All you need to worry about is square units until we move on to units of measurement after March Break.
Challenge: Learn a new division strategy.
Here are some division strategies. Master these before moving on: If your best strategy so far involves drawing circles or "cookies" and drawing dots, chips or single marks in each circle to make groups these are the videos to watch! 1. Mr. Burns' Video: Divide Quicker by Using Friendly Numbers. 2. Mr. Burns' Video: Divide LARGE Numbers by Using Friendly Numbers 3. The Big 7 (Partial Quotient Division). Can you see how this is related to the first 2 videos by Mr. Burns? Strategies you can learn if you mastered the first 2: 1. The Salley Method. I'm think the official name is the Box Method. ;) 2. Chunking 3. Division Strategies: This has long division and The Big 7 Method. Fast forward to find different strategies if you don't want to watch the whole 12 minutes. Homework: Your challenge is to watch the videos, and decide which strategy you like the best. It has to be a new strategy that you learned. For tomorrow: 1. Make up your own division problem. 2. Clearly explain - using step by step instructions - how you used the method you learned to solve the problem. 3. Be prepared to explain the strategy to others tomorrow. 4. Be prepared to use it tomorrow to solve some division problems. Please click the link below to view the anchor charts we have been using for our Transformational Geometry Unit.
Please note that the REFLECTIONS anchor chart would be the same as FLIPS for Grade 3. The main difference in describing transformations is that:
