You may be wondering what the work students in class are doing looks like. This website is a great way to share student work, and we will begin doing so starting today!
Tonight: The classroom is flipped!
We're doing the homework at school and the school work at home! Welcome to the flipped classroom!
For an explanation about the flipped classroom please watch the video in the PARENTS section.
Student homework tonight is in the RESOURCES section. The goal is to learn a new division strategy, to be able explain it and then to come to class and use it to solve some problems.

Genius Hour
There are two separate posts on Genius Hour. One is in the parents section of our site so it is easy to find in the future. The other is in today's Classroom Update.
Update!!!
It's not very often I stay up until almost midnight marking student homework because I'm so excited about what I'm seeing.
Please go to our blog and witness the amazing Genius Hour posts that students have put on our blog. The topics range from coding and making video games to singing, math, planets, basketball skills, socccer tricks and more!
These are the only posts I've made public so anyone can see them...because they're incredible!

Halloween Party Friday
After a busy week last week, I realized Halloween was on top of us and that, in order to keep spirits high, we would have to have a Halloween party! We had a class meeting today to decide what we wanted to do. Some students have volunteered to bring in some snacks. I realize this is a last minute request so, if it is not possible to bring in snacks please don't worry, I will make sure there are plenty of snacks at the party.
Due to York Regions healthy eating policies I usually insist that food brougth in be of a healthy nature but...it is Halloween. We are planning on having some healthy snacks and some....others. Please don't sent in bags of candy, chocolate bars etc. if that's ok. Right now we're looking at having some chips, popcorn, cupcakes, fruit, juice and things along those lines.
If you would like to send in anything please do, if it is too last minute, please don't worry. My apologies for not notifying parents sooner!

Welcome to our New Arrivals!
Welcome to the new grade 4 students who have joined the class! Welcome to our class and to our class website.
Students: head on over to the Classroom Updates!
Parents: Check out some of the information on the Parents page!
Due to the current job action, I will be updating this page with information pertaining to the curriculum and we will be using it in class for various purposes such as sharing resources. You may notice the posts are less detailed than the first few and don't appear as often, however, I will update this with important information and hopefully the bargaining will come to a close soon.

Agendas needed
Agendas are an important way for students to record homework and reminders, to learn organizational skills and to help communication between parents and teachers.
Please be aware that all students need an agenda or another method of recording homework. If an agenda was not purchased from the school they can be purchased for very little from Dollarama. If you would like to use another method to record homework such as an electronic method that is fine. Loose pieces of paper are not acceptable as they get lost easily. :)
I will post homework on the "Homework Board" section of this page until everyone has an agenda or some other way to record their homework. This is not the most reliable method however, as there are three other teachers who may assign homework and who may put it on the board in their room, or after I have left for the day.
Have a great day!

homework for september 14
There is a picture of the homework assignment for today on the Classroom Updates page.
Welcome to our class web page!
My name is Mr. Burns and I am very much looking forward to spending a wonderful year with you!
It's going to be an exciting year!
During our opening week, students will be doing a lot of community building. We will play some "get to know you games" to build trust and co-operation. In addition, students will be directly involved in creating our "ideal" classroom. Students will brainstorm and discuss what makes an ideal classroom and then we will create our own home made list of rights and responsibilities. Also, students will be introduced to the idea of multiple intelligences and explore their own learing styles in order to set themselves up for success in the future.
